Howard W. Thompson

Howard W. Thompson, affectionately known as “Wayne” 73, of Hurst, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale with his loving wife by his bedside.

Howard was born on May 6, 1948 in Oraville, IL to Earl and Della Thompson.

He was raised in Ava, IL later moving to Carbondale, IL to attend school. After school he joined the United States Army in 1965. Howard also drove Semi Trucks for over 30 years until he retired.

Howard was united in marriage with Marcia Thompson on June 28, 1972 in Murphysboro, IL. He enjoyed traveling, 4- wheeling, and spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and friend.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Marcia Thompson of Hurst, IL; three children: David Thompson of Murphysboro, IL, Julie Lazorchak of Johnston City, IL, and Michael (Susy) Thompson of Royalton, IL; four grandchildren: Emily Rich (Joe) Matuszczak of Hurst, IL, Kelsie Thompson of Royalton, IL, Teddy (Heather) Rich of Hurst, IL, and Kaitlyn Thompson of Royalton, IL; three great-grandchildren: Evaley Collier, Avery Rich, and Jolee Matuszczak all of Hurst, IL; two brothers: Glenn (Sharon) Thompson of Winchester, TN and Ronnie (Leanne) Thompson of Lick Creek; two sisters: Phyllis Denam of Cambria, IL and Joyce (Bob) Harrison of Lake of Egypt, IL and a host of nieces, nephew and other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents Earl and Della Thompson; three brothers Albert, Ralph, and Willard (Willie) Thompson; and one sister Della Jane.
