Makanda

Henry Gregory Niehaus, 49, passed away on December 21, 2024, at his home in Makanda, Illinois. Born on October 13, 1975, in Bethel, Alaska, Henry was the son of Harry Niehaus and Sophie Earls. An Alaska Native, Henry grew up in North Pole, Alaska, where his adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors were shaped.

Henry proudly served his country in the United States Navy with Mobile Construction Battalion 74. After his military service, he owned a successful renovation company in Florida, earning a reputation for his craftsmanship and talent. In later years, Henry found his greatest joy in being a stay-at-home father, dedicating his time to raising his two children.

A devoted family man, Henry cherished moments spent fishing with his kids, vacationing in the Florida Keys, and deep-sea fishing on the open ocean. Known for his love of cooking and his passion for NASCAR, Henry brought life and laughter to every room he entered. His robust laughter, warm heart, and larger-than-life personality will be deeply missed.

Henry is survived by his loving spouse, Ashtin Henninger, and their two children, Henry “Kimo” Niehaus and Kenidi Niehaus. He also leaves behind his mother, Sophie L. Earls; siblings, Henry Michael Niehaus, Bobbi Ann Niehaus, Alex Calhoun, and Edward “EJ” Calhoun; and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Niehaus, and his brothers, Tommy Niehaus and Henry Sergie Niehaus.

Henry’s legacy of love and laughter will live on in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.

Final arrangements longly entrusted to Southern Cremation and Burial Services of Murphysboro, Illinois.
