Edward Dorsey

Edward Dorsey, affectionately known as Ed, 75, of Carbondale, Illinois went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 11, 2024, with his family by his side.

He was born on March 22, 1949, to Arthur and Eddie Mae (James) Dorsey in Chicago Illinois. He served his country, community, and family with dignity and respect until his transitioning.

Ed graduated with honors from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. After serving 20 years in the United States Army as an officer earning the rank of Major as a Green Beret “Airborne Special Forces Rangers”, he honorably retired from military service in 1989. He was accepted to the School of Law at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. After graduating, he began working for the SIU School of Law as the Dean of Admissions. Ed also began private practice as a defense attorney in both Illinois and Missouri. He held offices as President and Legal Secretary in the Carbondale branch of the NAACP.

 He is survived by his wife, Wanda Hope Dorsey; his only daughter, Charlie Hope Dorsey, sons, Marion and Kelly Dorsey; grandsons, Makael and Colby Ralston, special nieces, Desiree Johnson Bolden, Sonya Massey and Chazier Dorsey Downs and many other relatives and friends.

 Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Eddie Mae (James) Dorsey; brothers, Scotty and Arthur Dorsey; and his only sister Gloria Dorsey.

 His presence will truly be missed. Rest in Power to our King.

 A visitation will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, from 4:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m. at Southern Cremation and Burial Services, 1017 N. 14th Street, Murphysboro, Illinois 62966 followed by a Celebration of Life starting at 5:00 p.m., with Rev. Darryl K. Cox officiating.

 Inurnment will follow on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Mound City National Cemetery, IL 37, Mound City, Illinois 62963.
