Bertrilla Lee Haynes

September 11, 1967 — November 16, 2023

Chicago

Bertrilla Lee Haynes was born to Willie and Irma (Williams) Haynes in Chicago, Illinois, on September 11, 1967. She was the youngest of four children. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age.

Lee attended Barton Elementary School until sixth grade and Stevenson Elementary School, where she was a part of the first school to integrate by race. She attended Calumet High School. Shortly after high school, Lee attended Dawson Technical School.

Trilla was a hard worker. She worked for the United States Postal Service, was a security guard for a number of companies, including CTA, and also served as a public crossing guard. Although a true introvert, she enjoyed helping others.

Trilla experienced two amazing relationships. In 1982, Trilla met Anthony Baker Sr. From this relationship, they shared four children. In 1994, Trilla met Lionel Sproulls, with whom they shared one child. When Trilla loved, she loved forever.

Trilla could be found on the dance floor or relaxing with a pair of her signature sunglasses on. A fashionista in her own right, she had a beautiful smile and a soul to match; she was truly one of a kind. A mother first, her children were truly her pride and joy. It was nothing she wouldn’t do to protect and provide for her Fab Five. That was OUR Trilla, she will truly be missed.

Bertrilla was called to her final resting place on Thursday, November 16, 2023. Her father, affectionately known as "Tony,” and sister, Delanda, preceded her in death.

She leaves many to cherish her loving memory: her mother, Irma; children, Ayana, Anthony Jr., Aaron, Assia, and Laverues; grandchildren, Aniyah, Unique, Aaron, Jr., A’iyah, A’vaya, Nubia, Kali, Tru, and Baby Faith; siblings, Reginald and Barbara; god children, Messiah and Journee; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
